Research and practical analysis that small towns can use.
Good policy for small towns is often made without evidence from small towns. Ideas and Policy is the Forum’s research programme. We study what helps towns trade, govern well and protect their heritage, and we publish the findings in plain language, with sources and a one-page summary for officials.
What we publish:
- Research papers on twinning, trade, heritage and tourism in small towns
- The Mofussil Index, an open ranking of small-town infrastructure, with its method published
- Practice guides on local governance and public services
- Briefings for state government departments and council leaders
How our work is checked
Each paper is reviewed by people outside the Forum before release. Every source is cited, and corrections are published openly, with the date and reason.
Who it is for
Officials, council leaders, researchers, journalists and anyone making decisions for small towns.
How to take part: Read our publications, send comments on a paper, or suggest a question that small towns need answered.
Connecting global leadership with regional potential through dialogue, ideas, policy and opportunity.
